1936 February - 2021 March

1936 born on February 22nd at Laneilian Anglesey.  A busy mid-wife had 3 births to manage that day: Richard Hardman and David Barnsley
1937 travelled with his parents to South America, where he lived in Colombia, while his father worked at the Frontino Gold Mines in Segovia and they travelled there by ship and sea-plane.  They lived very happily within the ex-pat community, where Hilary made a friend of Jeremy Lee - a friend for life.   
1939 his brother Tony was born
1940 an amazing holiday travelling to Cuba, New York and  finally Vancouver to visit his father’s sister Nora, returning via the east coast to Colombia
While in New York, Hilary climbed onto the window ledge of the multi-storey hotel to “look at the toy cars on the roads below”, rather than panic and frighten him into falling….. his dad asked the hotel receptionist to ring the room phone, knowing his love of answering the phone.  It worked…..
1941 he went to school, his Mother was persuaded to send him to the local convent school in Segovia but locals tried to bribe their way for favours (Father being the manager then)  He came back from school with loads of presents. She then tried the American school in Bogota but this was political and mother discovered he was on a march along with strikers demonstrating about something or other which might have been a banner against Yankee Imperialism!
1944 he went to school in Jamaica he was sent with some of his best friends to de Cartret in Jamaica which was a colonial school run on rigid lines. He must have gone there aged 8.  Christmas holidays were spent at Mrs Stevenson's in Montego Bay and he and his friends were good company, different from school.
1942 his brother Patrick was born 
 1947 Soon after mother took us out of school in 1947 and travelled by ship to the UK and then Hallfield school. 
1950 He went onto Bromsgrove and left school in 1954 
1954 He started an apprenticeship at Joseph Lucas and stayed there until he retired. He told me they should have given him a cuckoo clock as he had been with them for such a long time. 
1959 he met Judy at the Arden Tennis club, at a Children’s party
1960 they got engaged
1960 Hilary completed his degree, and was presented with it by queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
1961 March 2nd they got married at St Mary’s church in Acocks Green
1961-1962 - they lived in the attic rooms of Arden Road, Acocks Green with his parents in law
1962 August 30th Helen was born
1966 July 26th David was born
1976- Hilary’s dad and father-in law died in the same year
1980-1983- Helen went to university, and then returned to live at home
1984- 1990 David went to university, and then went to live in Germany 
1986 Dorothy, his mother-in-law moved in.
1991 Hilary retired and discovered Family history 
1994 Helen married Adrian, and Hilary and Judy became grandparents to Thomas.  They lived in Northumberland 
1996 Dorothy died at the family home, and Hilary sorted out all the paperwork
2000 David moved back home
2011 Hilary’s mum died aged 101years, and Hilary sorted out the paperwork with his brothers.
2017 Hilary won the Over 80s mixed doubles tournament at West Warwickshire tennis club

2018- 2020 Judy was diagnosed and became poorly with cancer.  Hilary was determined to get her into the Marie Curie hospice where she died on March 8th 2020
2020 March 24th Covid lockdown measures came down across the UK affecting everything, including how you celebrate and commemorate a person’s life. 
2020 December 22nd Hilary was contacted by the Blood Team to come in as they were concerned about his red blood cell count
2021 January 26th Hilary came home….
2021 March 1st Hilary died.
